Make May Purple: Action on Stroke Month 2025

Every May, the Stroke Association runs Action on Stroke Month to raise awareness and funds for stroke survivors and prevention. In 2025, the campaign once again invites people to “Make May Purple” in support of those affected by stroke.

What Is a Stroke?

A stroke occurs when blood flow to the brain is interrupted, causing brain cells to die. It can lead to lasting brain injury, disability, or even death. Stroke is one of the leading causes of disability and one of the fastest medical emergencies to act upon.

Campaign Background

Launched by the Stroke Association, Action on Stroke Month highlights risk factors, signs, and the importance of early intervention. The “Make May Purple” initiative encourages individuals, schools, and businesses to raise funds and awareness by wearing purple, organising events, or sharing information.

How to Get Involved

  • Wear Purple – Encourage your school or workplace to participate.
  • Host a Fundraiser – Bake sales, charity walks, or quiz nights can support stroke survivors.
  • Learn the FAST Test – Familiarise yourself with the signs of a stroke: Face, Arms, Speech, Time.
  • Share Facts Online – Use your voice to raise awareness.

Purple with Purpose

By making May purple, we show solidarity with stroke survivors and help prevent future strokes through awareness and action. Let’s make a meaningful impact this May—because every second counts.
